Dubuque, IA – The Prairie Fire came up short in a bid for a fourth straight win on Saturday against Cornell College.

The Rams downed Knox 7-2 in a Midwest Conference South Division match at Loras College.  The Prairie Fire’s other scheduled match of the day against Loras was cancelled because of the weather.

Cornell (12-5, 2-1 MWC South) won five of the six singles matches and two of three in doubles play against Knox.

Sophomore Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) came back in his #2 doubles match against Cornell’s Ashan DeSilva to win in three sets.  Palmer dropped the first set 1-6, rebounded to take the second set 7-6 (7-4), and then won the match with a hard-fought 13-11 victory in the third set.

Palmer also had a hand in the second win for the Prairie Fire (7-13, 1-2 MWC South).  He and sophomore Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) defeated Cornell’s #1 doubles team of Justin Bradfield and Tyler Shonkwiler 8-4.

Knox is scheduled to play next at Monmouth College on April 20 at 10:00 a.m.  The Midwest Conference South Division match against the Fighting Scots was postponed on April 6 because of inclement weather and moved to April 20.
