Monmouth, IL – The Prairie Fire won its first league match of the season against Illinois College on Saturday.
Knox handled IC 9-0, the Prairie Fire’s third straight victory and first in Midwest Conference South Division play.
Knox (7-12, 1-1 MWC South) was also scheduled to play a MWC South match against Monmouth College on Saturday, but it was postponed because of extremely windy conditions. The make-up date for the contest is April 20 at 9:00 a.m. in Monmouth.
Senior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge) swept his #4 singles opponent while sophomores Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North), Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier), Jonathan Ng (Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong International School) and first-year Dustin Loch (Glen Ellyn, IL, Glenbard West) each allowed just one point in their matches.
Ruzgas and Palmer claimed an 8-2 win in #1 doubles, Ng and Ham won 8-0 in #2 doubles, and the Prairie Fire’s #3 doubles team of Loch and senior Mike Carr (Niles, IL, Niles Notre Dame ) posted an 8-2 victory.
Knox goes for a fourth consecutive win against fellow Midwest Conference South Division member Cornell College (10-3, 1-0 MWC South) on April 13 at 11:30 a.m. in Dubuque, Iowa. The Prairie Fire will also play a non-conference match against Loras College at 2:00 p.m. on April 13.
