Ashland, WI – The Prairie Fire shut out both of their opponents and posted a pair of wins at the Northland Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Knox rolled to a 7-0 victory against Finlandia University in the first match and followed with a 2-0 triumph over host Northland College. The Prairie Fire (3-1) have won three straight matches by combined scores of 16-0 after falling to #20 ranked DePauw University in the season-opener.
Knox scored five goals in a stretch of about 16 minutes in the opening stanza against Finlandia for a 5-0 lead at the intermission.
Sophomore
Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) put the Prairie Fire on the board and Finlandia in a 1-0 hole with a goal at 13:17, assisted by sophomore
Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton). Harned made it 2-0 with a score at the 16:07 mark assisted by sophomore
Will McGowan (Andover, MA, Bridgeton Academy).
Knox extended the advantage to 3-0 on a successful penalty kick by senior
Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth Comprehensive) at 22:31. Logie scored his second goal of the contest at 26:41 on an assist by Gatyas for a 4-0 lead.
First-year
Connor Driscoll (Lewisville, TX, Hebron) got into the scoring column with a goal at 29:02.
Gatyas became the Prairie Fire's second multi-goal scorer in the match when his shot at 58:28 got by Lions' goalie Miguel Gamez. Gatyas then assisted on the final goal of the match by first-year
Terence Lau (Shanghai, China, Shanghai American School) at the 83:02 mark.
Knox outshot Finlandia 21-5 overall and 13-2 on goal. Prairie Fire goalie
Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC) had two saves in earning the shutout.
Harned scored both goals for Knox in the win against host Northland. He gave the Fire a 1-0 lead just 1:00 into the match on an assist by sophomore
Charles Edemba (Abia, Nigeria, Santana Rhetoric Institute).
Harned added his second goal at the 25:18 mark, assisted by first-year
Bernardo Gasperazzo (Monte Carlos, Brazil, Colego Padrao).
The Prairie Fire held Northland (2-2) without a shot in the match while taking 31. Lumberjacks' goalie Colton Schreyer was busy trying to fend off the 19 offerings sent his way. He finished with 17 saves.
Dockrell picked up his third shutout in three matches played, the most shutouts for a Knox goalie in at least a decade.
The Prairie Fire are vying for a fourth straight win on September 11 at Concordia University Chicago at 3:30 p.m. The Cougars own a 3-1 record after winning 3-0 at Ripon College on September 8.
