Ashland, WI – The Prairie Fire split their two matches in the Northland Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Knox stayed perfect on the season with a 3-1 win in the team's first contest against Finlandia University before falling to host Northland 2-0.

Finlandia pulled in front 1-0 with a goal at the 8:40 mark.  The Prairie Fire allowed the Lions just one more shot on goal the rest of the way while taking 16.

Knox tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by first-year Danielle Fraser (Northfield, IL, New Trier) 25:00 into the contest.  The score was the first of the season for Fraser while sophomore Sam Watkins (Des Moines, IA, Roosevelt) and junior Delsey Ramirez (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park) assisted on it.

Watkins gave the Prairie Fire the lead for good at 2-1 with her second goal of the season at 29:59.

Ramirez added an insurance goal, assisted by junior Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy), at the 59:06 mark to put Knox on top 3-1.

Knox fired 27 total shots to three for Finlandia (0-4).  Senior goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) had one save for the Fire in recording her second win between the pipes so far this fall.

The match against Northland was a battle of two unbeatens.  Both teams were seeking a third straight victory to begin the season.

The Ladyjills held Knox to seven total shots, four of them on goal, while countering with 14 shots.  Northland also had four shots on goal, but unfortunately for the Prairie Fire, three went in.

The match was scoreless until Northland (3-0) got on the board at the 34:14 mark on a penalty kick to grab a 1-0 lead.  The hosts doubled the advantage at 2-0 about 7:30 later.

The Ladyjills concluded the scoring 51:05 into the match for a 3-0 lead that they made stand.

Knox (2-1) tries to rebound at Rockford University on September 10 at 3:00 p.m.

The Regents (0-2) are off to a tough start.  They've been outscored 16-0 by opponents in the first two matches.  The most recent loss was a 10-0 setback at home against Midwest Conference member Monmouth College.
