Monmouth, Ill. – The Prairie Fire had a strong showing in the long-distance and throws events at the Monmouth Midwest Indoor Invitational on Saturday.
Knox secured three top five performances in the 5000 meters and three more in the shot put against a field of seven other teams – including Midwest Conference members Monmouth College and Beloit College.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) placed second in the women's 5K race in 20:42.24 for the Prairie Fire. Her time ranks sixth on the Knox all-time top 10 individual list for the event.
Sophomore
Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E. Lee) finished third in the men's 5K followed by sophomore
Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) in fourth place. First-year
Joseph Gilmore (North Pole, AK, North Pole) also scored for Knox with a sixth place finish.
The Prairie Fire placed 3-4-5 in the men's shot put. Senior
Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) was third with a throw of 44' 1.5" while first-year
James Lenihan (Oak Lawn, IL, Oak Lawn) finished fourth and sophomore
Brennan McGlauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) fifth. Lenihan's heave of 44' 1/2" ties him for 10th on the all-time individual list. Knox had four of the top eight throws with senior
Devin Compton (Aurora, IL, West Aurora ) placing eighth.
Compton and McGlauchlen also scored for the Prairie Fire in the weight throw. Compton was sixth with his throw of 42' 11.5" and McGlauchlen placed eighth with a personal-best distance of 41' 1 3/4" that ranks 10th on the all-time individual list.
Sophomore
Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) turned in a top five performance in the 400 meters. She placed third in 1:05.73. First-year
Emily Rosen (Austin, TX, Liberal Arts and Science Academy) scored as well with an eighth place finish for the Prairie Fire.
The Knox men's team tallied points in the 400 meters. First-year
Jeremy Rainey-Brown (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) placed seventh and sophomore
Ian Horne (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva) finished eighth.
Both Prairie Fire squads had relay teams that scored. The women's 4x400 with Goncalves and sophomores
Grace Neubauer (Inverness, IL, William Fremd),
Mickella Duffy-Webb (Colorado Springs, CO, William J Palmer), and
Yesi Rodriguez (Highwood, IL, Highland Park) placed seventh. The men's 4x200 with Horne, sophomore
Sam Reading (Tennesse, IL, West Prairie), junior
Jake Swider-Rogers (Chicago, IL, St. Ignatius), and sophomore
Hamad Alizada (Denver, CO, Martin Luther King) finished eighth.
In addition, Reading ran the 60 meter dash in a new personal-best time of 7.64 seconds that ranks second on the all-time individual list. Sophomore
Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) finished the 800 meters in 2:04.86 for ninth on the all-time individual list.
The Knox men scored a total of 38 points and placed seventh in the team standings, just 2.5 points behind fifth place Millikin University. Augustana College finished first with 269.5 points.
The Prairie Fire women scored 17 points and placed eighth, two points behind Millikin. Augustana led the way with 291 points.
Knox placed seventh, ahead of Beloit, in the combined team standings.
