Mount Vernon, Iowa – The Prairie Fire hoped to shake things up atop the Midwest Conference standings against Cornell College.  The Rams wouldn't cooperate in a 116-61 win on Tuesday.

Cornell posted its sixth straight victory and kept pace with MWC co-leader St. Norbert College.

The Rams (14-3, 10-2 MWC) hit two 3-pointers in the first minute of the game for a 6-0 lead.  Sophomore Jamie Blue (Urbana, IL, University) scored on an offensive put-back for Knox's first bucket.

Cornell answered with seven straight points for a 13-2 lead at the 17:11 mark.  A free throw by junior Jodi Marver (Northbrook, IL, Glenbrook North) halted the run, but the Rams followed with another 7-0 surge to go up 20-3 with 14:25 left in the first half.  A jumper by Marver on the next Knox possession trimmed the Cornell advantage to 20-5.

The Rams scored 14 unanswered points over the next 4:30 to stretch the lead to 34-5.  The Prairie Fire scored eight straight points, capped by a 3-pointer from Blue, to close the gap to 34-13 with 7:25 to go.

Cornell ended a nearly two-and-a-half minute scoring drought with a 3-point basket that kick-started a 23-7 run to close out the half and gave the hosts a 57-20 lead at the break.

Knox (4-12, 2-9 MWC) struggled to make shots, connecting on 7-of-35 attempts (20 percent) – including 2-of-16 from 3-point range.  Cornell shot 52 percent and made seven 3-point baskets while holding a 38-16 rebounding edge.

The Rams continued to roll in the second half.

The Prairie Fire scored the first basket on a layup by senior Grace Theisen (Minneapolis, MN, Southwest).  Cornell went on a 14-0 run and led 71-22 before junior Becky Duffy (Chicago, IL, Northside Prep) hit a jumper with 14:52 remaining.

Knox finished the game shooting 25 percent (18-of-73) overall and 4-of-35 from 3-point distance.  The Rams wound up at 58 percent and drained 15 shots from behind the 3-point line.

Blue led the Prairie Fire with 14 points and six rebounds.  Theisen added 12 points and Marver had 10.

Rikki Mulloy scored a game-high 25 points for Cornell.

The defending Midwest Conference champion Rams also defeated Knox 92-74 at Memorial Gym on December 4 to sweep the season series.

The Prairie Fire's difficult schedule continues at St. Norbert on Saturday.  The only game between the two teams this season is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
