Second Half Goals Lift Beloit Past Women's Soccer

GALESBURG, Illinois – Beloit College scored two goals in the second half to come from behind and defeat the Prairie Fire 2-1 in Midwest Conference play on Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.

Knox (3-11, 0-7 MWC) got off to a great start when first-year Kayla Brown (Sacramento, CA, Wilton Christian) scored her seventh goal of the season, assisted by first-year Jacqlynn Milligan (St. Louis, MO, Visitation Academy), 5:26 into the match for a 1-0 lead.

The Prairie Fire held the Buccaneers to two first half shots and maintained a 1-0 advantage at the intermission.

Beloit (4-11-1, 1-7 MWC) scored less than three minutes into the second half to tie Knox 1-1.  The Bucs took the lead for good with another goal at the 66:39 mark.

Knox had a chance to tie on a penalty kick by first-year Kelsie Pos (Salt Lake City, UT, Skyline) with a little over four minutes remaining, but it was just off the mark to the right and the Buccaneers held on.

The Prairie Fire held a 14-10 edge in total shots, including 8-7 on goal.  Brown took seven shots, six on goal, to lead the Knox attack.

Sophomore Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) stopped five shots in goal for the Prairie Fire.

Knox hosts St. Norbert College next Saturday, October 25, at Jorge Prats Field at 1:30 p.m.
