GALESBURG, Illinois – A spirited effort by the Prairie Fire came up short against St. Norbert College in Midwest Conference play on Saturday.
The Green Knights kept their Midwest Conference tournament hopes alive with a goal at the 48:20 mark that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win over Knox.
The Prairie Fire (3-12, 0-8 MWC) held St. Norbert scoreless in the first half despite a 14-2 edge in shots by the Knights. Knox was unable to counter with a goal in the final 41:40 of regulation.
First-year
Kayla Brown (Sacramento, CA, Wilton Christian) took all seven of the shots by Knox. Six of her attempts were on target and saved by SNC keeper Sarah Platzer. The Green Knights (6-8-1, 4-2-1) finished with 22 total shots.
Sophomore
Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) recorded six saves in goal for the Prairie Fire.
Knox plays its home finale Tuesday against Illinois College at 4:00 p.m.
