Jacksonville, Ill. – The Prairie Fire had five top five performances at the Illinois College Alumni Classic on Friday night, the last meet before the Midwest Conference championships.

Knox and five other teams, including fellow Midwest Conference members Monmouth College and host Illinois College, took part in the meet.

Sophomore Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) finished in the top five in two events.  She placed fourth in the 3000 meters with her time of 11:42.69 and fifth in the mile after crossing the finish line in 5:55.23.  Reyes moved up to eighth on the Knox all-time top 10 individual list in the 3K while her time in the mile is the sixth-fastest in school history.

Sophomore Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) finished fourth in the 800 meters for the Prairie Fire women's squad.  She ran the race in 2:36.90.

First-year thrower James Lenihan (Oak Lawn, IL, Oak Lawn) led the Knox men's team by placing fourth in the shot put, which had 23 competitors.  Lenihan's throw measured 13.42 meters, or 44' 1/2".  Sophomore Brennan McGlauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) and senior Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot.

Sophomore Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) placed fifth in the men's 3000 meters with a season-best time of 9:39.66.  He also ran a personal-best 4:44.82 in the mile, which is seventh place on the all-time individual list for the event.

First-year Josh Tvrdy (Tuscon, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) finished right behind Cole in the mile in 4:45.52, the eighth-fastest time by an individual.

Sophomore Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) had another strong performance in the 800 meter race.  He ran a personal-best 2:02.78 and now owns the sixth-fastest time on the all-time individual list.

The Prairie Fire compete next in the 2014 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 28 and March 1 at Cornell College.
