Mount Vernon, IA – Two Prairie Fire relay teams posted times that rank among the fastest in the history of the indoor track and field program on Saturday.
The Knox women's team and the men's squad both placed 10th at the Midwest Conference Championships. The two-day event wrapped up on Saturday with a full slate of running and field events.
The Prairie Fire men's Distance Medley Relay team raced to a sixth place finish in 11:06.37. That's the 10th fastest men's DMR time in school history. The runners were first-year
Josh Tvrdy (Tuscon, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy), sophomore
Ian Horne (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva), first-year
Jeremy Rainey-Brown (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep), and sophomore
Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves).
The Knox men also scored with a seventh place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The foursome of Horne, Tvrdy, Rainey-Brown, and sophomore
Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) crossed the finish line in 3:39.11.
The Knox women scored in the Distance Medley Relay by finishing eighth in 14:15.79, recording the 10th fastest women's DMR performance of all-time. Running the relay were sophomores
Mickella Duffy-Webb (Colorado Springs, CO, William J Palmer),
Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep),
Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest), and
Grace Neubauer (Inverness, IL, William Fremd).
A new top 10 mark was established for the Prairie Fire as well. Senior Weston Chenoweth recorded a career-best weight throw of 43' 1/4" that ranks ninth on the all-time top 10 individual list.
Monmouth College won both the women's and men's Midwest Conference championships. St. Norbert College was the women's runner-up and Carroll University placed third. On the men's side, St. Norbert finished second and Grinnell College was third.

Mount Vernon, IA – There's a long way to go in the conference meet, and the Prairie Fire will try to move up in the team standings during tomorrow's final day of events.
The first day of the MWC championships wrapped up with seven events scored in both the women's and men's meets. Only four men's teams and five women's teams scored 20 or more points on Friday.
The Knox men and women concluded the opening day in 10th place. But with several events left to compete in on Saturday, both Prairie Fire squads could make big leaps in the standings.
Four runners and a hurdler recorded personal-best times, all of them all-time top 10 efforts.
Sophomore
Sam Reading (Tennesse, IL, West Prairie) finished the 60 meter dash in 7.52 seconds, which is #2 on the all-time top 10 individual list. Fellow sophomore
Hamad Alizada (Denver, CO, Martin Luther King) ran the race in 7.77 seconds for #5 on the individual list.
First-year
Josh Tvrdy (Tuscon, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) and sophomore
Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) posted their best times in the mile. Tvrdy finished in 4:45.38 and Jere in 4:45.65, the #8 and #9 fastest times by an individual in the mile.
Junior
Jake Swider-Rogers (Chicago, IL, St. Ignatius) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 10.04 seconds to top his previous best of 10.44 seconds for #2 on both the all-time top 10 performance and individual lists.
Monmouth College is in first place with 61 points in the women's team standings. Grinnell College is second with 47 points followed by Carroll University (45), Cornell College (43), and St. Norbert College (33) in the top five.
Monmouth also leads the men's teams with 77 points. St. Norbert (54) is second, Grinnell (47) third, Illinois College (23), and Carroll (19) fifth.
