Saturday, August 30

Aurora University 3
Knox College 0

Knox stayed close with Aurora but couldn't pull away from the Spartans in any of the three sets.  The Prairie Fire came up short, 21-25, in the first set.  Knox fell into a two set hole with a 16-25 loss in set two, followed by a competitive third set the Prairie Fire dropped 19-25.  First-year players Kyleigh Guthals (Clovis, NM, Clovis) and Rose Griffin (Maryland Heights, MO, Rosati-Kain) led the Prairie Fire with nine kills each.  Guthals and sophomore Holly Bieber (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) shared team-high honors with 13 digs, and junior Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield Central) had 23 assists.

Hamline University 3
Knox College 0

The Prairie Fire and Hamline met in the first match of the day for both squads on Saturday, and their third overall in the tournament.  Knox, looking to hand the Pipers their first loss of the tournament, fell 18-25 in the first set.  The Prairie Fire couldn't turn the corner in the second set, which ended in a 20-25 setback.  Knox saw its record drop to 0-3 in the tournament following a 12-25 defeat in set three.  Kyleigh Guthals (Clovis, NM, Clovis) recorded eight kills and 10 digs for Knox.  Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield Central) had double-figures in assists with 19 and digs with 10, and Holly Bieber (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) contributed a team-high 11 digs.
 
Friday, August 29

Benedictine University 3
Knox College 0

The Prairie Fire dropped their first match of the tournament against Benedictine.  The Eagles prevailed in a close first set 25-21.  Benedictine won the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13 to take the match.  Kyleigh Guthals (Clovis, NM, Clovis) knocked down five kills, served up three aces, and added 10 digs in her college volleyball debut for Knox.  Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield Central) had 10 assists and 11 digs and Holly Bieber (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) led the Prairie Fire with 13 digs.

Principia College 3

The Prairie Fire started strong against Principia and won the first set 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.  Principia bounced back and tied the match at 1-apiece with a 25-11 victory in set two.  The Panthers hung on for a 25-19 win in the third set before downing Knox 25-13 in the fourth to claim the match victory.  Kyleigh Guthals (Clovis, NM, Clovis) had a big day for the Prairie Fire with 15 kills.  Rose Griffin was also a force with nine kills and 17 digs, Casey Stachelski dished out 19 assists and tallied 19 digs, and Holly Bieber led all players with 27 digs.

Knox resumes play on Tuesday, September 2 at Eureka College.  The match against the Red Devils (0-2) begins at 7:00 p.m.
