JACKSONVILLE, Illinois – The Prairie Fire remain unbeaten against MacMurray College in the annual Ferris Trophy match following a 7-0 road win on Thursday.

Knox improved to 3-0 in the rivalry match with the Highlanders and maintains possession of the hardware that goes to the winner of the contest.

The Prairie Fire (2-4) got off to a terrific start, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes.

The first one was less than one minute into the contest when first-year Alyssa Stepanian (Island Lake, IL, Wauconda) scored off a feed from first-year Kelsie Pos (Salt Lake City, UT, Skyline).  A goal by first-year Jacqlynn Milligan (St. Louis, MO, Visitation Academy) on an assist by senior Nadia Tapfumaneyi (Harare, Zimbabwe, SOS-Hermann Gmeiner) made it a 2-0 Knox lead at the 5:12 mark.  First-year Shea Pierce (Joliet, IL, Joliet West) stretched the advantage to 3-0 a little more than five minutes later with a goal that Milligan and sophomore Danielle Fraser (Northfield, IL, New Trier) assisted on.

Tapfumaneyi got into the scoring act with a pair of goals 10 minutes apart.  Pos earned her second assist of the day on Tapfumaneyi's first goal 16:25 into the contest.  The second goal was unassisted.

First-year Jia Curry-Bild (Champaign, IL, University Laboratory) netted her first goal of the season in the 29th minute to push the Prairie Fire lead to 6-0 at the break.

Pierce scored the lone goal of the second half at the 50:19 mark, her second of the match and fourth this season, to round out the scoring.

Knox held the Highlanders (1-6) to four total shots.  Two were on target and saved by Prairie Fire sophomore goalie Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge), who recorded her second shutout.

The Prairie Fire peppered MacMurray with 20 shots, including 12 on goal.  Pierce led the attack with five shots as nine different Knox players took at least one.

Knox begins Midwest Conference play at Grinnell College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  The Pioneers (3-3) have won their last two matches, both of them at home.  Live video of the match will be available online at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/grinnell/
