GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire lost 89-77 to conference rival Monmouth on Wednesday night.
Knox (1-2, 0-1 MWC) fought to the very end, but came up just short. Trailing by three at halftime, the Prairie Fire kept the deficit in the single digits for most of the second half. Knox got to within two points a few times in the middle of the second half, but could not pull any closer.
Caylab Herrera (Middletown, DE, Middletown) led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pick up the double-double.
Deandre Weathersby (Chicago, IL, Kenwood Academy),
Robert Suntken (Naperville, IL, Naperville Central), and
DJ Lewis (Chino Hills, CA, Chino Hills) all finished with 11 points.
Braden Adams (Mount Vernon, MO, Mount Vernon) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Knox will look to rebound when they travel to Lake Forest on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game.
