Track & Field Prepares for MWC at Olivet Nazarene

BOURBONNAIS, Illinois – The Prairie Fire faced some different teams on Saturday at the Olivet Nazarene University Qualifier, the last meet before the Midwest Conference championships.

Senior Ezekiel Jere (Lusaka, Zambia, SOS Hermann-Gmeiner International) and junior Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) both scored for Knox and set new all-time top 10 marks in their events.  Jere finished sixth overall in the 800 meter run, and his time of 2:00.71 ranks #7 on the top 10 performance list.  Cole placed eighth in the 3000 meter race in 9:19.54 to move up to #10 on the all-time individual list for the event.

Jere also ran the mile in 4:43.09 to secure the #7 spot on the all-time individual list.

Senior Chaz Benton (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) and sophomore Jeremy Rainey-Brown (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) posted new top 10 times for the Knox men's team as well.  Benton sprinted to a finish of 7.36 seconds in the 60 meter dash, the second-fastest time by an individual in the event.  Rainey-Brown ran a personal-best 53.29 seconds in the 400 meters, which ranks #10 by an individual.

First-year runner Rebecca Katz (Columbia, MO, David H. Hickman) led the Prairie Fire women's squad with her best time in the mile so far this season.  She crossed the finish line in 5:49.28 for #4 on the all-time performance list.  She also owns the fifth and seventh-fastest performances for Knox in the event.

First-year Frances Larsen (Anchorage, AK, West Anchorage) finished the 3K race in 11:47.54 for #10 all-time by an individual.  Senior Nicolette Bridgeforth (Chicago, IL, Guerin Prep) had a good day in the weight throw with a top distance of 40 feet 7 1//2 inches.  That's the 10th longest weight throw in school history and the third best by an individual.

Other teams that competed in the meet besides host Olivet Nazarene included the University of St. Francis, St. Ambrose University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Carthage College, Aurora University, St. Xavier University, and Benedictine University.

The Knox indoor track and field teams compete next at the Midwest Conference championships on Friday and Saturday at Grinnell College.
