Knox men and women each finish fifth at Cornell

It was a big day for the Knox College track and field team at Saturday's Cornell Invitational.

The men's field events had an especially big day as Ethan Strutzel led the team, winning the javelin. In the same event, Izayiah Hawes finished fifth and Austin Cernich seventh for Knox. In the men's hammer, Stevan Dzolic also had a top-10 finish, placing seventh. In the discus, Colson Elisme was also top-10, finishing seventh.

On the track, Ryan Lautzenhiser placed eighth in both the 400 and 200. Lance Miller was third in the 800. Lautzenhiser, Miller, Kneko Vasquez, and Deangelo Willis took fourth in the 4x400.

These strong performances helped the Knox men finish fifth overall, scoring 36 points.

Similarly, in the women's portion, Knox finished fifth with 58 points.

The 800 saw three Knox scorers: Elsie Conwell won, Nicolette Walsh placed sixth, and Eileen Sheetz seventh. In the 400 hurdles, Lily Cuddy finished fourth and added an eighth in the 100 hurdles.

In the field events, Kayleigh Jones was third in the triple jump, Zoe Thunhurst was third, Jones was fourth, and Altynai Ruslanova was fifth in the long jump. In the women's javelin, Kendell Lade was sixth and Elle Haddon second. Stephanie Nelson also had a big day, finishing sixth in the discus and seventh in the hammer.

The Prairie Fire has a split roster this week, with some athletes competing at the UW-Platteville Invite on Friday and the Dick Young Grinnell Classic on Saturday.
