ResultsDUBUQUE, Iowa – The Prairie Fire notched a pair of victories in long-distance races and earned five more top five placements on Saturday at the University of Dubuque Invitational.
Sophomore
Josh Tvrdy (Tucson, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) won the 3000 meter steeplechase and junior
Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) took top honors in the 5000 meters for the men's team. Tvrdy recorded a personal-best time of 10:13.23 that improved his #6 ranking on the Knox all-time top 10 individual list in the event. Cole led all 5K runners across the finish line in 16:15.30.
Knox dominated the scoring in the 5000 meter race as
Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E. Lee) finished third and sophomore
Joseph Gilmore (North Pole, AK, North Pole) was fifth.
Sophomore
Jeremy Rainey-Brown (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) added a fifth place finish in the 400 meters and junior
Brennan Mc Glauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) placed eighth to score for the men in the javelin.
First-year runners
Rebecca Katz (Columbia, MO, David H. Hickman) and
Frances Larsen (Anchorage, AK, West Anchorage) scored the bulk of the points for the Prairie Fire women's squad. Katz was second in the 5000 meters and Larsen finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Larsen's time of 13:09.45 ranks #7 on the Knox all-time top 10 performance list.  Her personal-best time of 13:03.69 in the event during last month's
Knox Open is the #4 fastest on record.
Junior
Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) also scored with an eighth place finish in the 400 meter race.
The Knox men's and women's teams both finished seventh in the team standings. They'll compete next in the
Beloit Relays April 24-25 at Beloit College.
