Two Event Wins for Track & Field at Ashford

CLINTON, Iowa – The Prairie Fire won two events and placed second in two others at the Ashford University Spring Classic on Friday.

Knox placed fourth in both the men's and women's team standings.  Carthage College won the men's title and Monmouth College was the meet's women's champion.

Senior Ezekiel Jere (Lusaka, Zambia, SOS Hermann-Gmeiner International) and sophomore Josh Tvrdy (Tucson, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) led the Prairie Fire with first place performances.  Jere broke the tape in the 800 meters (2:05.41) and Tvrdy led the pack in the 1500 meters (4:23.49). 

Knox secured five additional top three placements.

Junior Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) finished second on the heels of Tvrdy in the 1500 (4:23.80) and sophomore Jeremy Rainey-Brown (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) was second in the 400 meters (55.13).  Tvrdy placed third in the 800 meters (2:07.83), first-year Frances Larsen (Anchorage, AK, West Anchorage) was third in the 1500 meters (5:38.72), and sophomore Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Saint Edmond) finished third in the 800 (3:00.66).

Also contributing points was Cole in the 5000 meters (fourth place), junior Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E. Lee) in the 1500 (fifth place), Birzer in the 1500 (fourth place), first-year Caroline Hickey (Alexandria, VA, Cambridge School of Weston) in the 200 meters (fifth place), and junior Caitlin Hemby (Birmingham, MI, Seaholm) in the 200 (sixth place).

Next up for the Prairie Fire is the Lee Calhoun Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University on April 10-11.
