GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire volleyball team fell to Grinnell on senior night to conclude their season.
Knox (7-20, 3-6 MWC) trailed 9-7 early in the first set, but the Pioneers used a 6-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. The Prairie Fire battled back with four straight points, but Grinnell was able to cruise to a 25-19 first set win. Knox and the Pioneers were tied 7-7 in the second set before the Prairie Fire used a 4-0 run to take the advantage. Grinnell battled back to force a 13-13 tie and the remainder of the set was a dog fight. Knox came out on top 25-23 in the second set. The Prairie Fire jumped out to a 4-1 lead in set three, but the Pioneers soon took a 6-5 lead. Knox regained the lead momentarily, but a 4-0 run put Grinnell in the lead and they would hold on for a 25-20 set three victory. Set four was a back-and-forth affair from the beginning with lead changes constantly. Knox looked to gain the advantage when they took a 22-21 lead late, but the Pioneers found a way to come out on top with a 28-16 win.
Keiyah Triplett (Chicago, IL, Westinghouse) tallied 30 digs in her last match in a Prairie Fire uniform. Fellow senior
Madi Pierro (La Jolla, CA, Tri City Christian School) also tacked on six digs.
Rachael Powell (Indianapolis, IN, Lawrence Central) racked up 41 assists and
Rose Griffin (Maryland Heights, MO, Rosati-Kain) added 16 kills.
