EUREKA, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team dropped their season opener at Eureka 86-69.
Knox (0-1) trailed 20-18 after the first quarter, but the Red Devils used a 25-12 second quarter to build a 45-30 lead by halftime. Eureka outscored the Prairie Fire 28-23 in the third quarter to extend their lead. Knox outscored the Red Devils 16-13 in the final quarter, but it was too late to turn the tide.
Karlie Thorn paced the Prairie Fire with 17 points thanks to a 3-for-4 showing from beyond the arc. First-year Kyra Huffman led the Prairie Fire with 13 rebounds and added 10 points for a double-double. Carley Bechen and Jarrelyn McCall each added 10 points.
Knox returns to action in their home opener on November 22 when they battle Robert Morris-Peoria.
