Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 on California Trip

PASADENA, California—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team earned wins over St. Katherine and CalTech to finish 2-0 on their California trip.
 
Knox (5-4) won their fourth game in their last five contests to move to above .500 for the first time this season. The Prairie Fire dominated the Firebirds on Tuesday night leading 43-21 at halftime. St. Katherine kept pace with Knox in the third quarter, but the Prairie Fire pulled away with a 77-47 victory.
 
Kyra Huffman (Sacramento, CA, St. Francis) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebound to earn the double-double. Hailey Leinart (Gurnee, IL, Warren Township) added 14 points and Karlie Thorn (Henderson, NV, Coronado) chipped in 13. Jarrelyn McCall (Lonoke, AR, Lonoke) also notched 10 boards.
 
Knox trailed the Beavers 33-27 at halftime on Wednesday night, but put up 49 points in the second half to win 76-61. Leinart and Thorn each hit two-three pointers to spur the comeback and take the lead.
 
Leinart finished with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Her seven three-pointers ties a school record. Thorn also added four treys to come away with 19 points. Huffman and McCall each added 12 points with Huffman grabbing nine boards as well.
 
Knox returns to action when they travel to Lawrence on January 2.
