GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Lawrence 72-35 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first conference victory.
Knox (2-3, 1-1 MWC) grabbed an early lead, outscoring the Vikings 19-7 in the first quarter. The Prairie Fire had expanded their lead to 43-23 by halftime. Lawrence fought hard in the third period, but could not make any headway. Knox finished the Vikings off with a 19-3 fourth quarter to claim victory.
Kyra Huffman (Sacramento, CA, St. Francis) led the Prairie Fire with 18 points and added nine rebounds.
Karlie Thorn (Henderson, NV, Coronado) pitched in 11 points and
Hailey Leinart (Gurnee, IL, Warren Township) scored 10 points.
Jarrelyn McCall (Lonoke, AR, Lonoke)l grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and chipped in eight points.
Knox will host rival Monmouth on December 7 to continue their conference home stand.
