GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire downed Grinnell 70-64 at home on Wednesday night.
Knox (12-10, 7-10 MWC) cemented their first winning season and most wins in a season since the 1996-97 season with their victory. The Prairie Fire have won five of their last six games against the Pioneers. Knox trailed 16-10 after the first quarter, but the Prairie Fire went on a 9-0 run to start the second quarter and led 33-25 at halftime. The teams each scored 21 points in the third quarter and Grinnell outscored Knox 18-16 in the final quarter, but Knox held on for the victory.
Saundra Gavazzi (Gilbert, AZ, Chandler) led all scorers with 18 points and finished with eight rebounds.
Hailey Leinart (Gurnee, IL, Warren Township) added 15 points while
Jasmine Binion (Davenport, IA, Assumption) and
Jamie Blue (Urbana, IL, University) each scored 11 points. Blue also grabbed nine boards to lead the team.
Knox will look to add to their win total when they travel to Ripon on February 20.
