GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire football team suffered defeat at the hands of Eureka on September 3 in the fifth annual Lincoln Bowl.
Knox (0-1) had two touchdowns in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 14-14 tie with the Red Devils. Eureka struck first with two touchdowns of their own in the second quarter, after an uneventful first quarter. The Red Devils broke the tie with 1:56 to play in the third quarter to finish the scoring. The Prairie Fire marched down the field and looked poised to tie the game, but an intercepted pass sealed the victory for Eureka.
Matt McCaffrey completed 19-of-35 passes for 265 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions. His favorite target in the game was Patrick Marzolino who hauled in nine receptions for 114 yards and a score.
Brock Gabel led the Prairie Fire defense with 11 tackles, a career-high. Logan Hollis added 10 tackles while Evan Economous intercepted a pass and broke up another one.
Knox travels to Beloit next weekend for their conference opener.
