Box Score GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team won their season opener 82-77 against Eureka.
Knox (1-0) set the tone early outscoring the Red Devils 24-18 in the first quarter and taking a 43-37 lead into halftime. Eureka crept back into the game in the third quarter, but the Prairie Fire scored the last five points of the quarter to lead by seven after three stanzas. The Red Devils stormed back to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter and the score went back and forth for the next few minutes. Knox retook the lead for good with 53 seconds remaining. Eureka threatened again when they brought the game to within a point with 15 seconds left on the clock, but Jarrelyn McCall hit a pair of free throw for the Prairie Fire and Hailey Leinart picked off a pass in the final seconds and finished the game off with a layup.
McCall finished with a game-high, and career-high, 23 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Taliah Ellis added 15 points and seven assists, while Morgan Potter scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds. Kyra Huffman neared a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Knox will look to stay on the winning track when they host MacMurray on November 25.
