LA VERNE, California- The Prairie Fire men's basketball team earned their second straight win and second of the season after a thrilling overtime victory against University of La Verne in California. DJ Lewis put on a show for his hometown fans, putting up 15 points to lead the Fire to the victory in the first of two games in California.
Knox found themselves down by four with just under three minutes left to play in regulation, but refused to go away. A jumper by Deryk Ruple followed by a pair of free throws by Blake Godbold and solid defense throughout was enough to force overtime. In the overtime period Deryk Ruple scored four of his 10 points. Lewis, Jonathan Damota and Marko Protic all added buckets to give the Fire the win. Blake Godbold finished just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Knox will finish out their California road trip on December 16 when they take on Cal Tech in Pasadena, California and look to continue winning and gain some more momentum before heading back home.
