Women's Soccer Earns Win Over Greenville

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Knox women's soccer team swept Greenville College 6-1 to earn their second win of the season. The Prairie Fire kept the ball on the Panther's end for the majority of the game and managed to get 24 shot attempts to Greenville's seven.

Knox (2-4) had several good looks at the goal, but struggled to finish with 13 shot attempts in the first half. Greenville, found their own touch scoring in the 24th minute. The Panthers remained ahead 1-0 going into the second half.

The Prairie Fire brought the intensity after halftime scoring within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Corina Leyva got the team rolling with their first goal assisted by Brooklyn Deming's flip throw.

At the 62nd minute mark, Kayla Brown was able to free herself from her Greenville defender to put in another goal, giving the Fire a 2-1 advantage. Knox continued attacking the goal, which led to a foul inside the penalty box. Alex Robertson glided in the free kick to bring the score to 3-1.

Knox didn't stop there; however, as in the 57th minute Brown struck again followed by Jessica Petersen's penalty kick to bring the team to their fifth goal. Melissa London wrapped up the team's scoring streak in the last three and a half minutes of the contest for a final score of 6-1.

The Prairie Fire look to add another win to their record, as they take on Buena Vista University tomorrow, September 17.
