GRINNELL, Iowa – Knox College's Rose Griffin and Beloit College's Abby Gessell have been named the Midwest Conference (MWC) Offensive and Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively.
Weekly Notes
Griffin picked up 28 kills for a .455 hitting percentage last week in wins over Rockford University and Iowa Wesleyan University. Against Rockford she picked up her 990th career kill to move into third all-time at Knox and then cleared her 1,000th kill in the match against Iowa Wesleyan.
Gessell totaled 37 digs in two Buc victories last week. The junior totaled 20 against Mount Mary University and 17 against Alverno College for an average of 6.16 per set.
Notable Performances
Jonalee Elliott helped the Red Hawks win the 2017 Ripon College Quad with a 2-1 record, including a three-set victory against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Named to the All-Tournament Team at the end of the weekend, Elliott recorded double-digit kills in all three of Ripon's matches. She finished the weekend with 36 kills (3.6 K/set), 11 digs (1.1 D/set), and a hitting percentage of .313.
Paige Wimbrow passed out 49 assists last week in two Beloit victories last week, both of which were match highs. She also added nine digs in each match to her stat line.
Emily Witz racked up 57 digs in three matches as Lake Forest College's libero last week. Her 23 in a loss at Carthage College Friday were the most by a Forester in a three-set match this year. She also tallied 11 digs in a three-set win over Robert Morris University-Springfield and 23 more in a four-set victory over Concordia Chicago University on Saturday.
