DECATUR, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team fell to a tough Millikin team on the road on Wednesday night.
Knox (9-3-1) lost 1-0 to snap a nine-game unbeaten streak dating back to a loss to #2 University of Chicago on September 6. The Big Blue, despite a losing record on the season, have played a tough schedule this year including #6 Washington University in St. Louis.
The Prairie Fire outshot Millikin 10-6 in the game, but the Big Blue snuck in a header off a corner kick early in the second half and held on for the victory.
Lydia Mitchell, the hero from the overtime game against Grinnell on October 6, shot a game-high five shots including two on goal. Yvette Rodriguez also got of a pair of shots for the Prairie Fire, both on goal.
"It was a well fought game," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "They took their chance and we had a tough time finding the back of the net, despite a decent performance."
Knox will look to start a new streak and remain unbeaten in the Midwest Conference when they travel to Beloit on October 13 and Lake Forest on October 14.
