Women's Soccer Defeats Lawrence on the Road

APPLETON, Wisconsin—The Knox College Prairie Fire women's soccer team won a decisive victory against the Lawrence Vikings by a score of 4-0 in Appleton, Wisconsin this Saturday. The Prairie Fire were thoroughly in control throughout the entire game, and their offensive and defensive units both shined throughout.

While the first 30 minutes of the game were without scoring, it was not for a lack of effort, as the Prairie Fire attack put consistent pressure on the Viking defense. That pressure finally resulted in a goal for Knox, as Emma McCormick strongly struck a rebound off the crossbar in the 36th minute to give the Prairie Fire their first score of the game. Just over a minute later, Rosie Medina received the ball from a deflection and put it in the back of the net to double the Knox lead. That would remain the score as the first half closed out.

Knox kept up the pressure in the second half, and after only a minute Lydia Mitchell scored off of a nice assist from Alyx Farris to push the score to 3-0 in favor of the Prairie Fire. Knox's defense continued to suffocate the Lawrence offense, as they were only able to put up three total shots throughout the entire game. As the match was winding down, Michaela Thawley scored a volley off of a deflection to add another goal to Knox's tally and raise the final score to 4-0.

"The conditions were tough and it was great to get a lot of players some valuable experience tonight and get back to putting a few in the back of the net," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson.

The Prairie Fire next play at home against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on October 23.
