GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire volleyball team lost to Midwest Conference leader Cornell on Tuesday evening.

Knox (4-15, 0-5 MWC) took an early 4-2 lead in the first set, but the Rams erased the deficit and took a 13-5 lead. Cornell held on for a 25-10 victory in the first set.

In the second set, the Rams jumped out to an 11-4 lead. The Prairie Fire battled back and tied the score at 13-all, but Cornell scored the next five points to take an 18-13 lead. The Rams took the set 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

After some back-and-forth early in the third set, Cornell took an 8-4 lead. Knox cut the deficit to 10-8, but the Rams responded with a four-point run. The Prairie Fire fought back to bring the score to 12-15, but Cornell went on another run to take an 18-12 lead. The Rams finished the match by taking the third set 25-15.

Marissa Akers led Knox with eight kills and Mady Ferris chipped in 16 digs. Kylie Wolf racked up 14 assists and Autumn Schneider finshed with 2 assisted blocks. Akers also earned a solo block and a block assist.

The Prairie Fire travel to Principia on October 13 to play Principia and Hannibal-Lagrange.
