EUREKA, Illinois – The Prairie Fire men's basketball team played on the road against Eureka College on Thursday night. Knox had momentum coming off of a tough win Tuesday night against Maranatha Baptist College, but fell behind early in this one and could not catch up.
Knox College found themselves in an early 7-0 deficit before a jumper by Justin Windt put them on the board. Eureka extended the lead to 10 shortly after. The scoring continued as Eureka built a 24-2 lead before another jumper by Windt. At the end of the first half the Prairie Fire trailed 65-29. Eureka shot 50% from beyond the arc in the first half and 57% overall.
In the second half the Prairie Fire whittled away at the lead a bit, but the Red Devils kept knocking down treys at a very high rate and there was not much Knox could do. Eureka went 8-for-16 from long distance to again average 50%. The Prairie Fire offense was better in the second half as they scored 40 and got more players involved. The final score was 116-69. Windt and Ikenna Ozor both finished with 11 points. Ozor grabbed 12 boards to complete the double-double.
"Tonight was not the outcome we were hoping for and we have some things to work on," said head coach Kevin Walden. "There is not much we can do about them shooting so well, but we need to take better care of the things that we can control as well."
The Prairie Fire will have a chance to bounce back when they host Illinois Institute of Technology on November 21.
