GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Central 62-53 on Saturday afternoon.
Knox (3-1) fell behind 6-4 early in the first quarter, but quickly rebounded for a 13-6 lead. The Prairie Fire took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter. Knox outscored the Dutch 18-4 in the second period to lead 33-15 at halftime.
Central stormed back in the third taking a 39-38 lead late in the quarter, but Morgan Potter converted on a three-point play to put the Prairie Fire back on top heading into the final stanza. Knox began the fourth quarter with five straight points and quickly rebuilt their double-digit lead. The Dutch fought, but could not get the game within five for the remainder of the game.
Jarrelyn McCall led the Prairie Fire with 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. Potter and Kyra Huffman each added 11 points. Huffman grabbed a team-high seven boards.
"We played a great first half and fourth quarter," said head coach Emily Cline. "I loved the resiliency we showed when they made their run."
Knox will return to action on November 25 as they host Buena Vista at 11:00 a.m.
