ORANGE, California—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team won their season opener 2-0 over Chapman on Friday night.
Â
Knox (1-0) took the lead late in the first half when the Panthers scored an own goal while trying to clear the ball. The Prairie Fire added another goal a third of the way through the second half when Brooklyn Deming found the back of the net for her first score of the season.
Â
Chapman outshot Knox 11-3 for the game, but goalkeeper Sierra Daniger was up to the task saving all eight shots on goal.
Â
"The first game of the year is always crazy and this one didn't disappoint, "said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "We played a lot of players tonight to see where we are at and at times we really connected passes. Â It's a great start for us."
Â
The Prairie Fire return to action on September 1 with another late start in California at Occidental.
