Football Falls in Roadtrip to Ripon

RIPON, Wisconsin—The Prairie Fire football team fell to Ripon 28-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Knox (0-3) and the Redhawks kept pace with each other through the first quarter, but Ripon broke through with the first score of the game in the waning minutes of the second quarter. The Redhawks struck again quickly to close out the half up 14-0.

The Prairie Fire broke through for three points midway through the third quarter when Jesus Flores hit a 40-yard field goal. Ripon responded with another touchdown with 5:46 remaining the third quarter to take a 21-3 lead. The Redhawks added their final score in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.

Jacob Amaro completed 29-of-51 passes for 242 yards and rushed for 21 yards. Grant Graham hauled in eight receptions for 58 yards and Malik Hamilton grabbed three of his own for 59 yards. Garrett Rau did a little of everything for the Prairie Fire with nine tackles, a pass completion, 21 yards rushing, and a 31.8 yards per punt average.

"We knew we were going to have to play consistent to be able to compete with Ripon, at times we did and at times we didn't. Those times of lapse, really cost us," said head coach Damon Tomeo. "There were a few bright spots to take from the day as we came up with four fumbles on defense and offensively threw for 259 yards with a multitude of players catching the ball."

The Prairie Fire return home on September 29 to host St. Norbert for Family and Friends Weekend.
