GALESBURG, Illinois— The Prairie Fire women's soccer team defeated Illinois College 7-0 in the first conference game of the season.
Knox (4-2-2) got the scoring started early when Olivia Grierson headed a ball off a corner kick from Brooklyn Deming less than three minutes into the game. Grierson was at it again when she assisted Lydia Mitchell in the eighth minute.
The Prairie Fire took a 2-0 lead into halftime and quickly put the game out of reach after the break. Grierson netted another goal at the 46:38 mark and Alyx Farris followed with a goal in the 50th minute. Deming scored a pair of goals a few minutes apart and Courtney Dramm put the exclamation point on the game when she hit a perfect shot to the upper right corner on a free kick from 20 yards out.
"We really worked on the things we wanted to work on today," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "We pushed forward with our attack and played our brand of soccer. It was nice to see a few different players get goals."
Knox outshot the Lady Blues 35-1 on the day to totally dominate the day.
The Prairie Fire return to action with a non-conference game against Wisconsin-Platteville on September 23.
