#2 Chicago Shuts Out Women's Soccer

CHICAGO, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team fell to nationally ranked University of Chicago on Thursday afternoon.

Knox (1-2) held the #2 Maroons off the board for the first 20 minutes of the match and only allowed one goal in the first half to trail 1-0 at the break. The Prairie Fire defense held fast again in the early part of the second half, but Chicago broke free twice in a matter of minutes and held on for the 3-0 victory.

The Maroons outshot Knox 21-7, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Sierra Daniger was able to grab nine saves in the match and Brooklyn Deming shot two of her three shot attempts on goal.

"Obviously that's a quality team," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "We scheduled it so we could really put ourselves in a challenging situation and we got that. We had some really good moments and I think we actually played quite well for long periods of the game. They outlasted us just a bit and showed their ability late on. I'm really encouraged, though, after the start of the year. The record is what it is, but for me it's about the process, and everything we are doing is fantastic right now."

Knox will return to action on September 8 when they host Simpson in the home opener.
