Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanks Simpson

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team defeated Simpson in the home opener on Saturday afternoon. Knox hosted FC Galesburg, with members of FC Galesburg joining the Prairie Fire before the game during pre-game introductions and playing a short game on the field during halftime.

Knox (2-2) dominated for most of the first half, firing off 15 shots. Brooklyn Deming found the net early to put the Prairie Fire ahead 1-0. Corina Leyva assisted. Despite some good looks, Knox went into halftime only leading 1-0. The Storm found some good touches in the second half, but failed to capitalize on their few looks. The Prairie Fire added some late insurance when Corina Leyva found Alex Robertson for a header with under 13 minutes to play.

Knox outshot Simpson 26-2, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Katy Coseglia made two saves to keep the Storm off the board.

"We had some tired legs today, but it was great to use our depth to fight through and get a win against a Simpson team that was very organized," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "Now we have to recover well to go face a quality Central team on Tuesday."

The Prairie Fire travel to Central on September 11 to begin a three-game non-conference road swing.
