GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team defeated the Lake Forest College Foresters by a final score of 2-1 today at Jorge Prats Field. With the win today, Knox continues their impressive undefeated streak in conference play and remains in sole possession of first place in the Midwest Conference.
Â
Disaster struck early for the Prairie Fire, though, as Sangjun Hornewer took advantage and scored a breakaway goal less than a minute into the game. The Prairie Fire didn't lose focus though, and in the 14th minute Jenna Milligan used a nice assist from Lydia Mitchell to level the game at 1-1. As a testament to the mental strength of the Prairie Fire, they pounded shot after shot against the Forester defense after their initial miscues. As the half continued, it became clear that the early Lake Forest goal was a fluke, as Knox displayed a definite offensive advantage. Despite this, the half ended with both teams still tied at 1.
Â
The second half saw most play taking place in the middle third of the field, with neither team able to create very many opportunities. Knox's tough play resulted in many fouls and a yellow card being given to the Foresters. Mitchell, after some nice play throughout the game, managed to break the tie with a low screamer that put Knox up by one goal. The Prairie Fire defense clamped down after that, with a clutch save by Katy Coseglia punctuating an excellent defensive effort. As the final whistle blew, the team celebrated an impressive victory in the face of adversity.
Â
"I am very happy with our win today," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We unfortunately gave up an early goal, but really battled back. I am proud of our response and work ethic today. Looking forward to a great week of training heading into Lawrence."

Knox looks to continue their amazing season in conference play by hosting Lawrence University this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
