Women's Soccer Earns Shutout Over Lawrence

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team shut down the Lawrence University Vikings with an emphatic victory, besting them by a score of 7-0. Multiple players scored two goals, and the impressive victory extends their unbeaten streak in conference play to eight games.

Knox's offense immediately put the Viking defense to work, serving up multiple shots on goal in the early presence and maintaining the ball in the Lawrence half of the field. Michaela Thawley broke through first for the Prairie Fire, scoring the game's first goal off an assist by Lydia Mitchell. The Prairie Fire offense kept the barrage up, putting up 15 shots total in the first half. Despite some impressive individual efforts by Mitchell and Jenna Li, Knox didn't manage to score again until the 45th minute, when Emma McCormick blasted home a shot to double Knox's lead and send them into half with plenty of momentum.

The Prairie Fire entered the field for the second half and maintained the momentum they had gained earlier. During a two minute span early in the half, both Mitchell and Alyx Farris scored goals, doubling the Knox lead and showing off the impressive offensive chemistry the team possessed. After a lull in scoring for 20 minutes, Mitchell broke through again in the 66th minute for her second goal and Knox's fifth total. In the 79th minute, Makenna Keucks used an assist from the do-it-all Mitchell to score, and in the 83rd minute, McCormick sent another ball to the back of the net to provide Knox's final victory margin of 7-0.

"It was nice to win our final home game," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We still have work to do this week as we travel to Cornell next weekend."

Knox looks to continue their dominant season when they travel to Cornell College next Saturday for their game at 11:00 a.m.
