GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team fell to Monmouth 2-3 on Thursday night to finish the season.
Monmouth came out strong in the first set going with a five-point run and a quick back and forth to go up 10-5. Knox started to close the gap with a four-point run of their own, but were not able to take the lead as Monmouth kept the scores coming. Knox fought hard but fell in the first match 25-17.
The Scots started quick again in the second set with a 7-4 lead. Knox would not back down though, coming back with a nine-point run to take a 13-7 lead. The Scots were not going to give up that easily, coming back late in the match with a four point run to take a 21-19 lead. The Prairie Fire scored six of the next eight points to win the set 25-23.
Monmouth again had the lead early in the beginning of the third set with a 6-4 lead. Knox was able to tie it up fast at 7-7 but were not able to keep it. Monmouth took the third set 25-15 with two four-point and a three-point run as well as a few other points here and there.
Monmouth had a 9-5 lead early in the fourth set. The Prairie Fire were not going to let Monmouth win this set though, coming back to score six of seven points to take a 11-10 lead. The Scots took the lead back fast though going up 17-13. Knox wanted this set bad, with a six-point and then three-point run to win the set 25-22.
The fifth and final set of the match was tight all the way through. With runs from both Knox and Monmouth throughout with 4 lead changes. The Scots were able to pull away in the end winning the fifth set 16-14 and taking the match.
Mady Ferris notched 61 digs, a career high and one off the NCAA record for digs in a five set match. Kylie Wolf added 29 assists and Autumn Schneider notched 12 kills and seven blocks.
