GALESBURG, Illinois—The Knox Prairie Fire men's basketball team defeated the MacMurray College Highlanders 74-73 in their first home game of the season.
The Prairie Fire were firing on all cylinders in the first half holding a lead for the first 10 minutes and 14 seconds of play. Zach Lowe scored first in the game with two free throws for Knox. MacMurray got hot late in the half and used a 10-0 run to take a 27-19 lead and the Highlanders went into halftime up 35-26.
Knox was not ready to let their win streak fade away so fast. MacMurray increased their lead to 13 points early in the second half, but the Prairie Fire started their comeback with just under 10 minutes left in the half with a 20-7 run to tie the game up at 67 points apiece.
MacMurray tried to take back their lead in the last three minutes of play, but were unsuccessful as Knox won 74-73.
Lowe led the Prairie Fire with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ethan Meeker finished with 15 points and Elijah Crump added 11 points and nine rebounds. Eric Thompson scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.
"We hit a little bit of a cold stretch to close out the first half," said head coach Ben Davis. "We fought back a couple of times to give us a chance in the end and we finished strong."
Knox hosts Eureka on November 16 for their second straight home game.
