Women's Soccer Advances to MWC Tournament Championship

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team defeated the Lake Forest College Foresters by a final score of 1-0 today at Jorge Prats Field. The victory moves them to the final of the Midwest Conference Tournament.

In the beginning of the first half, Knox used their physical play to their advantage, managing possession of the ball while picking up a couple of fouls along the way. In the 10th minute, Brooklyn Deming found Lydia Mitchell with a nice leading pass that put Mitchell in excellent position to score the game's opening goal. Knox continued to get some nice shots off, but as the half progressed, Lake Forest battered the Prairie Fire defense with shot after shot. The always-solid Katy Coseglia stood strong, using a variety of parries and saves to keep the Foresters out of goal. She ended up having six saves in the half and nine total, displaying impressive reflexes along the way.

The second half saw relatively less action than the first, with less shots from both sides as the teams fought for the ball in the middle third of the field. Despite impressive offensive efforts from Emily McParland and Olivia Grierson, Knox was unable to find the back of the net for the rest of the game. Fortunately for them, Coseglia's outstanding play in goal and the Prairie Fire's general defensive prowess proved to be too much for the Foresters to handle. Knox's physical play proved to be the difference, giving them a victory on the day.

"Lake Forest is a great team who showed up today and gave us a tough match," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We were able to get a goal early in the game and defend really well for the rest of the game. We have our sights set on Monmouth tomorrow and look forward to what will be a battle!"

Knox plays again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Monmouth College at home, with another win giving them a berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
