GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Millikin in their season opener.
The Big Blue struck first when they scored five minutes before halftime. Millikin's lead held through the half, but Lydia Mitchell scored the equalizer in the 54
th minute. The score remained tied through regulation to send the game to overtime. Neither teams got much going in overtime and the teams settled for a tie to begin the season.
Knox outshot the Big Blue 20-7 in the game, but the teams each managed seven shots on goal. Katy Coseglia grabbed six saves in goal for the Prairie Fire.
"It was a great first game, we really had to battle through a tough Millikin opponent," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We saw some fantastic things from first-year Jenna Li and overall a great team fight. The work ethic and attitude to battle through double overtime was fantastic. We are excited to regroup and go again Sunday."
Knox will return to action on September 1 as they host Wartburg.
