GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire women's soccer team lost to Wartburg College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights got off to a quick start with a goal in the fourth minute off the foot of sophomore forward Joy Smith. Kate Luers added another goal for Wartburg in the 33
rd minute.
The Prairie Fire struggled to defend the Knights attack throughout the first half and were outshot 11-4 during that stretch.
Senior goal keeper Katy Coseglia totaled 10 saves with seven coming in the first half.
After a physical start to the second half, sophomore Emily McParland netted a goal from an Olivia Grierson assist for the Prairie Fire in the 87
th minute.
Knox couldn't cap off a final minute comeback and dropped their first match of the season and moved to 0-1-1.
"We played a tough Wartburg team who presented a lot of challenges to us as a team," said head coach Taylor Houck. "It was a great learning experience. I'm pleased with how the team responded in the second half to battle and get a goal back. I look forward to seeing how we improve on Wednesday."
Next up for the Prairie Fire is a matchup at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
