GALESBURG, Illinois – In a hot and humid gym, the Prairie Fire volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Rockford University.
 
Knox and Rockford went back-and-forth in a riveting first set. Knox held a 10-9 lead over Rockford in the early part of the set, the Regents came back to win 25-20. Knox came back with some intensity for the second set and the team's positive energy manifested onto the court. The teams exchanged leads for the early part of the set, but Knox pulled away to win 25-21.
 
In the third set, the Prairie Fire jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. The Regents stormed back to take a 10-9 lead, but Knox used a 7-1 run to take the lead and held on for a 25-19 victory. Rockford took a 5-2 lead in the fourth set, but the Prairie Fire fought back to an 11-11 tie and then took a 15-11 lead. Knox held on for a 25-18 win to win the match in four sets.
 
Catessa Duran led the team with 14 kills and Marissa Akers added nine. Mady Ferris notched 28 digs, while Katie Anderson tallied 19 assists.
 
"We came out a little stagnant, but we definitely showed our resilience in coming back to win the last three sets," said head coach Pat Barry. "We look forward to showing what we can do at our tournament this weekend."
 
Knox will battle Iowa Wesleyan and St. Mary of the Woods on Friday to begin the #Strong Tournament.
