GALESBURG, IL – For a third straight game, the women's soccer team shutout their opponent. The Prairie Fire defeated Central 3-0.
On a warm Wednesday afternoon, Knox scored early and kept a large lead against the Central College Dutch throughout the game.
In the 13
th minute, sophomore Michaela Thawley netted a shot just below the crossbar over the head of the Central goal keeper.
The Prairie Fire added a goal in the 19
th minute off the foot of Jenna Li. It was the first-year forward's first goal of her career in the purple and gold.
Thawley passed a shot to Li in the 24
th minute and Knox found themselves up by three for remainder of the contest.
"I've hit the post a few times in the past couple games, so to put one in feels good," Li said.
Senior goal keeper Katy Coseglia made five saves, which puts her at 32 total on the year.
The Prairie Fire outshot the Dutch 17-8 and controlled the ball for 60 percent of the match.
"We had our third shutout in a row and our defense came out strong. Proud of the women for working hard in the heat," said head coach Taylor Houck. "Excited for the weekend of games versus Marian and IIT."
Looking ahead, Knox will finish out their four game home stand with a matchup against Marian University at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
