GALESBURG, IL – Knox women's soccer stayed hot offensively in their Sunday afternoon match against Benedictine University courtesy to sophomore forward, Lydia Mitchell's first collegiate hat trick.
She scored early on in the 22
nd minute passing swiftly through a pair of Benedictine defenders. Another was knocked in in the 29
th after freshman forward Jenna Li placed a ball in an open lane for Mitchell to score.
In the 62
nd minute, she netted a third goal from the left side of the goal into the right corner. With a shrug of the shoulders and a smirk on her face, she hugged her teammates and set up for the next possession.
"I'm just really proud of our team," Mitchell said. "Just the way we have performed the past couple games. I can tell we are going to continue to get better."
The last goal of the night came form the foot of senior defender Leah Aspinwall on a free kick outside the box. The Prairie Fire crowd erupted in cheers as Aspinwall scored her first career goal.
Defensively, Knox held the Eagles to just six shots and senior goal keeper Kathryn Coseglia snagged five saves and notched her second clean card in two days,
"This was a fantastic team win today and another clean sheet for our back line. Great weekend of back to back wins and we are looking forward to Wednesday's match," said head coach Taylor Houck.
Knox will be back on the pitch for a matchup against Central College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. on Jorge Prats Field.
