MONMOUTH, Illinois— The Knox College women's basketball team fell to Monmouth 63-58 on Wednesday night.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter, but Knox used an 8-5 run to close out the quarter down 15-10.

The Prairie Fire continued their run and took a six point lead in the early minutes of the second period.  Monmouth tied the game at 21-21, but Knox took the lead and headed into halftime up 29-28.

The teams went back and forth a bit in the third quarter, but the Scots pulled ahead by six at the midway point. Monmouth added to their lead in the final minutes of the quarter and took a 50-41 lead into the final quarter.

Knox worked back to a single digit deficit after falling behind by 12 early in the fourth period. The Scots maintained their lead for most of the quarter, but the Prairie Fire pulled within three with just under two minutes to play. Monmouth would hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to seal their victory.

Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Nyah Daniels added 13 points and Kyra Huffman just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.

"It is always tough to play Monmouth, especially on the road," said head coach Emily Cline. "We had them on the ropes for much of game and we came up just short."

The Prairie Fire will face another tough road test on Saturday as they travel to St. Norbert.
