GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team picked up a 59-47 victory over Lawrence on Tuesday night.
The Vikings struck first with a jumped at the 6:29 mark in the first quarter. After some back-and-forth, Knox pulled away to a five point lead late in the period. The Vikings hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the quarter and Knox held a narrow 14-12 advantage heading into the second period.
Lawrence tied the game early in the second quarter and then took a 17-16 lead. The Prairie Fire responded immediately with a 7-0 run to retake the lead. The Vikings remained close and Knox held a 30-25 lead at halftime.
Lawrence hit a trey to start the second half, but the Prairie Fire maintained their lead. The Vikings pulled to with one point, but Knox stormed back and took a 45-35 heading into the final quarter.
Lawrence worked their way back to a single digit deficit briefly in the fourth quarter, but the Prairie Fire hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to claim the win.
Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 12 points. She also pulled down six rebounds. Jordyn Dole shot 3-of-7 from long-range to finish with 11 points. Saxon Alvarez added 10 points and Catessa Duran grabbed 13 boards.
"We played a very good second half," said head coach Emily Cline. "We had a fire down the stretch that I was pleased to see. Now we need to use this as a turning point for the rest of the season."
Knox will travel to Grinnell on Saturday to continue their conference season.
