Women's Basketball Takes Down Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa—The Knox Prairie Fire women's basketball team successfully defeated the Grinnell College Pioneers in a hard-fought game, winning 76-73 on the road. With the win, their conference record evens out again at 5-5.

The first half saw the theme of the game laid out early on in the competition. Namely, there were constant lead switches and impressive offensive play from both sides. Jarrelyn McCall went 4-8 from the field, as she put up nine points to go along with four rebounds, dominating the floor whenever she was on it. Nyah Daniels also had an efficient half coming off of the bench, scoring eight points in only seven minutes. Knox as a team shot 41.2% from the field, including going 5-12 from beyond the arc, which helped keep them relatively even with Grinnell. The Pioneers used their free throw shooting to pressure the Prairie Fire during the half, and Knox went into the half up by only one point.

Knox played it close again in the second half, with their steady shooting helping to carry them to victory. McCall continued her excellent play from the first half, and had an overall double-double with 11 rebounds and 19 points. Kyra Huffman put up a double-double herself, scoring 18 points to go along with 10 boards. The Prairie Fire managed to go 10-14 from the charity stripe, which helped them match Grinnell's own quality free throw shooting, and this helped them increase the lead narrowly to win by three.

"It was a great win today," said head coach Emily Cline. "Our seniors played really well and like last game we had numerous other people step up. Our bench really carried us today."

The Prairie Fire look to add to the win total when they travel to Beloit next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
